Pros

  • The Adaptive Artificial Intelligence created a much tougher challenge for players, requiring that they adjust their own tactics in order to outsmart the AI.
  • Gameplay is fantastic and continues to be improved.

Cons

  • The addition of numerous clubs was offset by the loss of multiple licenses, like those for clubs like Real Madrid. These are made even more disappointing because many of these clubs were licensed in Pro Evolution Soccer 2016.
  • Some moves are too difficult for players to properly execute.

Pro Evolution Soccer is the 2017 version of the popular soccer franchise.

This version, like those that came before it, comes replete with numerous updates. These include adaptive AI, in-game match analysis and a variety of official partnerships with numerous European football clubs. Animations are also improved and the goalkeeper system has been revamped, allowing for a smoother in-game experience.

In particular, the adaptive AI was praised by critics, who noted that it dramatically enhanced the game by making you feel as if you were actually playing against a real player who could guess and read your moves. As is Pro Evolution Soccer's trademark, the game comes with a wide array of management options. These nicely sync with the various modes of play and can give players of all stripes the ability to truly enjoy playing the game.

One of the biggest struggles this game has is a lack of realism. While the gameplay works well, the lack of licenses results in many fake teams, uniforms and players. It hurts the immersion of the game and makes it look second-rate, particularly when compared to the FIFA series. The realism is further hurt by the difficulty in which it takes to perfectly execute some moves, lack slide tackles.
